Haryana: Nayab Singh Saini Takes Oath As CM

BJP’s  Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday took oath as chief minister of Haryana for the second time. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath of office to Saini. BJP is the first party to have formed the goverment for the third consecutive term in Haryana.

BJP MLAs Anil Vij, Krishan Lal Panwar, Rao Narbir Singh, Mahipal Dhanda and Vipul Goel took oath as Cabinet ministers. Arvind Kumar Sharma, Krishan Bedi, Shyam Singh Rana and Ranbir Singh Gangwa were also sworn in as council of ministers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several BJP chief ministers, party leaders and Union ministers marked their presence at the ceremony. BJP won 48 seats in the assembly polls, while the Congress bagged 37 seats in the 90-member assembly.

The Supreme Court on Thursday in its verdict upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, which granted citizenship to immigrants who entered Assam before January 1, 1966.

A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud delivered the verdict. While reading out the verdict, the CJI said that while four judges, including himself, formed part of the majority verdict, Justice JB Pardiwala penned a dissent. A copy of the ruling is yet to be made public.
