“I won’t leave you people at any cost”, says V-C Najma Akhtar to students of Jamia

New Delhi: On Monday Jamia Millia Islamia University Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar said the varsity will lodge an FIR against the Delhi Police for entering into the campus and bitting up students of the institute. Akhtar spoke amid sloganeering by protesting students who were seeking an extension of examination registration date due to the turmoil. Earlier today, hundreds of students of Delhi’s Jamia Millia University assembled outside VC’s office demanding justice. The Delhi cops had barged into the university campus on December 5.

Akhtar said the university filed an FIR but police did not receive it. Further, she announced that the university would move court on the matter and register an agitation with the government.

Apart from other demands, the protesting students also want the university to reschedule examinations and ensure the security of students. The students barged into the office premises after breaking the lock on the main gate and raised slogans against the Vice-Chancellor. They all staged a protest outside the office.

On Sunday, Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh observed massive agitation against the Citizenship Act and NRC. Huge crowds gathered on the road. An interfaith prayer meet was also organized during the anti-CAA and NRC agitation where Hindu priests performed Yagnas, Bible and Quran were read out before hundreds of the protesters participating in reading the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.
