In a show of solidarity, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh visit P Chidambaram at Tihar Jail

Karti Chidambaram said that his father P Chidambaram is thankful to Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh for coming to Tihar.

 

New Delhi| In a show of solidarity with the jailed former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met him in Tihar jail on Monday. P. Chidambaram is facing the CBI and Enforcement Directorate ED investigation in INX Media Case. Chidambaram is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Before Sonia-Manmohan, Karthi Chidambaram met his father in jail. After meeting his father, Karti Chidambaram said, “My father is thankful to the interim president of Congress Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh Singh for coming to Tihar. Their support in this political fight is like a force for our family.”

Recently, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel met former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in Tihar Jail last week. This time Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram was also present with him. According to sources, during the half-hour meeting, the leaders discussed the current political situation with Chidambaram. There was also a discussion on Kashmir, the upcoming elections and the economic situation in the country.

P Chidambaram’s health deteriorating

According to the reports, Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram’s health is not good. Chidambaram is losing weight rapidly due to many diseases. Chidambaram’s lawyer Kapil Sibal has asked the court to give Chidambaram a medical service and supplementary diet from time to time. Chidambaram is suffering from severe backache and stomach ache. Reportedly, he is neither able to sit nor lie down.

Chidambaram was sent to Tihar on September 5. Since then he has been in jail for almost 18 days now. During the hearing on Thursday, the court gave him no relief and had extended the period of judicial custody of Chidambaram till October 3. Now his bail plea will be heard in the High Court of Delhi on 23 September.
