Former Union Minister P Chidambaram is in legal trouble, detained by the CBI in a 5-day custody.
Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar asked the agency to conduct medical examination of Mr. Chidambaram as per the rules.
CBI arrested former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday night on charges of money laundering in the INX Media case after high drama outside his Jor Bagh residence.
Chidambaram has been accused of facilitating a huge infusion of foreign funds into a television company, INX Media, in 2007, on the recommendation of Karti Chidambaram.
At the time, he was the country’s finance minister in the UPA government.
After his Delhi HC anticipatory bail denied, he moved the Supreme Court.

The solicitor general said, “It’s my case that he’s [Chidambaram] been evasive. He’s not answered questions and unless he’s under custodial interrogation, he will remain evasive.”

The government lawyer in court said that illegitimate money would not be deposited in my account if I’m innocent. He said that there are allegations of shell companies being created where money is transacted and laundered.
“We can show case diaries to court. It’s a case of money laundering of a monumental magnitude. I am saying this with some responsibility,” the lawyer said.

“The matter is sub-judice. Why is Congress afraid? If he has committed no wrong, there is nothing to worry about. Law will take its own course,” he says.

“Law takes in own course. Chidambaram went to the court, but did not get relief. The Congress’s act of blaming the central government is not proper as it is working without any vendetta,” Chouhan told reporters.
“If someone has indulged in any wrongdoing, it should be probed. It hardly matters whether the wrongdoer is big or small,” the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister added.

Supreme Court to hear P Chidambaram’s plea today
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Chidambaram’s plea challenging the Delhi High Court verdict dismissing his anticipatory bail plea.
P Chidambaram in 5-day custody of CBI
A special court on Thursday sent P Chidambaram to a five-day CBI custody in connection with INX Media money laundering case. He will remain in the CBI custody till August 26.
