Jamia Firing: Amit Shah says shooter won’t be spared, AAP asks for HM’s resignation

Hours after a gunman fired at protesters, Amit shah assured that the culprit will be punished to which AAP replies with demand for resignation.

New Delhi| “The central government will not tolerate any such incident,” Amit Shah said after the shooting, to which Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party responded by calling for his resignation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today tweeted out a guarantee that the “culprit will not be spared”.

“I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner on the firing incident that has taken place in Delhi and instructed him to take stringent action against the culprits. The centre will not tolerate any such incident. The matter has been taken seriously, and the culprit will not be spared,” he tweeted in Hindi.

However, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responded by tweeting, “What’s happening in Delhi? The law-and-situation in Delhi is deteriorating. Please take care of Delhi’s law and order.”

The police force in the national capital is controlled by the centre.

The AAP alleged that the Jamia firing was a BJP conspiracy to get the Delhi elections postponed as the “saffron party knows it is losing” the polls scheduled for February 8. The BJP was behind the “disgusting” act committed on the Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi, AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged.

The Facebook page of the shooter Rambhakt Singh also says that he is a member of BJP, Bajrang Dal and RSS. None of the organisations have confirmed it yet.

He posted hours before the attack on his Facebook page, which has since been taken down, indicate that he had come prepared for the consequences of his action. “On my last journey, drape me in saffron and shout slogans of Jai Shri Ram,” one of them said. Another more threatening post read, “Shaheen Bagh, Game Over”, referring to a massive protest against the citizenship law taken up by women and children in the neighbourhood.

The incident took place right in front of the heavy police deployment in riot gear, standing stone’s throw away from the gunman. The gunman has now been taken into custody. One person, who is claimed to be a Kashmiri named Shadab, has been injured.

As of now over a thousand students are protesting in the area and have moved ahead of the barricades put by the police, to prevent them from taking out a march to Rajghat. The policemen have water cannons on standby and are trying to push back the students. They have called in reinforcements too.
