Nitish Kumar Meeting With MLAโ€™s To Decide The Way Forward

JDUโ€™s Nitish Kumar has made his growing anger with the BJP over a multitude of issues clear and MLAs are meeting at 11 am today.

 

Mumbai: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is due to hold a meeting with his partyโ€™s MPs today at 11 am, as speculation over his split from the BJP reaches fever pitch. The Congress and the RJD have indicated that they are ready for Grand Alliance 2.0 if he abandons the BJP.

Nitish Kumarโ€™s Janata Dal United meeting is officially, it is meant to take a  call for the partyโ€™s alliance. Mr. Kumar clarified his growing anger at the BJP on a wide range of issues. MLAs and RJD leaders also meet at the same time at Lalu Yadavโ€™s Patna residence. Cell phones from all MLAs are kept outside the conference room. MPs from left-wing parties also arrived at the residence of RJD Patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Rashtriya Janata Dal or RJD of Lalu Yadav now led by Tejashwi Yadav and Congress have also scheduled meetings for today. Both sides have indicated they are ready for an alliance if Mr. Kumar abandons the BJP. Smaller Hindustan parties Awam Morcha and CPIML also offered unconditional support to Nitish Kumar.

The BJP, which approached Kumar twice on Monday, said it would await his decision. Sources said the partyโ€™s chief strategist, Amit Shah, contacted Mr Kumar and spoke to him on the phone. The partyโ€™s top state unity leaders met Mr Kumar on Monday.

Mumbai:  Five MLAs from the Bhartiya Janata Party and four from the Shinde Sena are expected to take oath in at the much-awaited cabinet expansion in Maharashtra today, according to reports.

The cabinet expansion comes 40 days after a revolt by a Shiv Sena faction led by then Thackeray loyalist Eknath Shinde brought down the Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray-led government.

The Opposition had criticized the delay in expanding the cabinet following the swearing-in of Eknath Shinde, who led the rebellion, as chief minister and the BJPโ€™s Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy in June.

Senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil, and former water resources minister Girish Mahajan are likely to, be inducted into the Shinde-Fadnavis team, sources added.

Sources further said, from the Shinde Sena, Gulab Raghunath Patil, Sada Sarvankar, and spokesperson of the Shinde faction Deepak Vasant Kesarkar are likely to take oath tomorrow.

Shiv Sena MLA Shinde and BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis, were sworn in as chief minister and Deputy chief minister respectively on June 30.

After the resignation of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, due to a revolt in the Sena ranks.

The Shinde-Fadnavis duo had been functioning as a two-member cabinet since then, inviting criticism from the Opposition. MR Fadnavis and Mr. Shinde visited Delhi multiple times in the recent past regarding the issue of cabinet expansion.

According to sources, Mr. Fadnavis is likely to get the Home portfolio, which he held during his first term as CM, from 2015-2020.
