Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said today that assembly elections in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted “at the earliest”. Kumar said the Election Commission will not let “any internal or external forces derail the election”. As per the Supreme Court, elections in the UT need to be held before September 30, 2024. The last assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir was held in 2014.
