As the 12th board examinations are going on, the farmers decided to reach Azad Maidan before dawn. The farmers left the Somaiyya ground at around 1 AM in the night.
The Maharashtra farmers who have been marching since six days to Vidhan Bhavan demanding loan waiver reached the Azad Maidan Ground in south Mumbai at 5 am in the morning. The march was organized by CPI(M) affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha. The farmers started their march on March 6 from Nashik’s CBS chowk. Walking for 35 kilometres daily, the farmers covered 180 kilometres barefoot and in a scorching heat.

On Sunday, the march reached Somaiyya ground in Sion where they halted for a while. However, as the 12th board examinations are going on, the farmers decided to reach Azad Maidan before dawn. The farmers left the Somaiyya ground at around 1 AM in the night.
The farmers are demanding assured procurement and price for the yield. Their core demand also includes complete loan waiver from the government. Considering the number of people attending the march, the Mumbai police has deployed heavy security in the area near Vidhan Bhavan and Azad Maidan. According to police reports, the farmers won’t be allowed to march till Vidhan Bhavan. However, a delegation of protestors will be allowed to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at 2 PM. The police also expect that the number of protestors will go up on Monday.

Various political parties including, Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Aam Adami Party, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party have declared their support to the farmer’s march. Even Shivsena leader Aditya Thackeray too showed party’s support to the Kisan March.
