"Teach Your Children The Ramayana, Or...": Kumar Vishwas Sparks Controversy

Indian Hindi poet, lecturer, and former politician Kumar Vishwas stirred controversy. This happened during a poetry event in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Vishwas allegedly made indirect remarks seemingly aimed at veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha.

During the event, Vishwas said, “Teach your children the Ramayana. Otherwise, it might happen that while your house is named ‘Ramayana,’ someone else may take away the ‘Lakshmi’ of your household.”

According to reports Vishwas took a veiled jibe at actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter, actor Sonakshi Sinha. He indirectly referenced her interfaith marriage.

Reacting to the incident, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate slammed the poet for making “lewd” and “cheap” comments. In a post on X, she wrote “Doesn’t a girl have the right to marry the person of her choice?”. “Poet Sir, who teaches others’ children to read the Ramayana and Geeta–while hating the religion of Sonakshi’s husband–have you forgotten how beautifully mutual love is depicted in the Ramayana?”

Supriya added that if Vishwas had studied the Ramayana, he “would have definitely understood love,”. Congress leader Surendra Rajput also condemned Vishwas’s remarks, echoing similar sentiments. He called them “cheap comments”. He further stated that “Lord Rama will not forgive them.”

Rajput taking the matter on X wrote, “Kumar Vishwas, you too have a daughter. Remember, with all the meanness and shamelessness with which you have tried to tarnish Shatrughan Sinha Sir and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha, all the mud will fall on your face one day.”

Meanwhile, amid the political and online debate, Kumar Vishwas has not responded to the controversy so far.
