Maharashtra Politics: Shinde, Rebel MLAs Booed With ‘ED’ Chants From Opposition

During the trust vote, the opposing MLAs yelled “ED, ED” as Pratap Sarnaik backed Eknath Shinde.

Mumbai: When a Thackeray camp MLA backed Eknath Shinde in the trust vote today, opposition MLAs cheered and yelled “ED” in the Maharashtra Assembly. Santosh Bangar, who had previously broadcast a video of himself sobbing in favor of Uddhav Thackeray on his Twitter account, has now switched allegiance to Mr. Shinde.

When Pratap Sarnaik backed Eknath Shinde during the trust vote, the opposing MLAs also yelled “ED, ED.” The Enforcement Directorate is looking into money-laundering allegations against Mr. Sarnaik (ED).

When Shiv Sena MLA Yamini Yashwant Jadhav, an Eknath Shinde supporter, voted in favor of the Speaker’s election even yesterday, opposing MLAs yelled, “ED, ED.” The opposition teasing came after Yashwant Jadhav, a Shiv Sena lawmaker and former head of the standing committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, was recently allegedly caught by the Enforcement Directorate for violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

With assistance from the BJP, the Eknath Shinde camp has easily passed the threshold of majority.
