Mangal Lodha, Mumbai BJP Chief, also accused the passenger, poet-activist Bappadittya Sarkar, of hatching an ‘anti-national conspiracy’ against the CAA.
Mumbai: Mumbai BJP chief Mangal Prabhat Lodha on Saturday felicitated a cab driver who took a passenger to police station after overhearing a phone chat in support of the CAA protests.
According to news agency ANI, Mumbai BJP Chief MP Lodha felicitated Uber driver, Rohit Gaur, who took his passenger to Santa Cruz police station instead of the destination, after he heard him make a phone conversation in support of CAA protest on 5th Feb. Police had recorded statements of both but found nothing suspicious.
“Rohit Gaur… who handed over the Uber taxi passenger devising anti-national conspiracy against the citizenship amendment act. Felicitated Rohit Gaur on behalf of the people of Mumbai calling him at the Santa Cruz Police Station and gave alert citizen award,” Lodha tweeted. He also shared pictures showing him felicitating Gaur.

The Uber driver took Poet, Bappaditya Sarkar, who was attending the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act in Mumbai to Santa Cruz police station instead of the destination after he overheard his chat on phone call in support of the nationwide protests against the CAA.

The driver allegedly told Sarkar that he should be thankful that he took him to the police station and not somewhere else. Sarkar later commented that the driver’s aggressive behaviour and violent language reflected the atmosphere in the country.
The 23-year-old poet also said that despite the unfair treatment, he was not going to lodge a complaint against the driver as it might ruin his career and life.
