Election 2019

No mismatch recorded between VVPAT and EVM: Election Commission

New Delhi | This election had received a lot of backlash for the Electronic Voting Machines, or the EVMs, from the Opposition parties.

However, a recent EC report comforts the ruling government’s statements of assurance that there is nothing wrong with the machines.

All the VVPATs have matched the EVMs. Previously, around a physical count of 20,625 VVPAT slips was to be done this election season as compared to the earlier election where 4,125 VVPAT slips were counted.

The CEOs said that there wasn’t a single mismatch reported anywhere out of the 20,625 VVPATs that were tallied.

The report was submitted by Chief Electoral Officers from across states.

This after the Supreme Court ordered a tally of VVPATs in five polling stations instead of one in every assembly segment.

TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, among other is the Opposition and met with the CEC, Sunil Arora multiple times to have the EVMs checked, or all the VVPAT slips rechecked.

The EC however, ruled it out and decided that the VVPATs will be checked as per the previous numbers.

In 2018, almost all of the Opposition parties rallied to bring the ballot papers back, rather than the EVMs.
