PM Modi says no bias against southern states in 15th Finance Commission

Prime minister Modi today said that the government has suggested the Finance Commission that the states which have effectively implemented the population control will be provided incentives.

Clearing the air around 15th Finance Commission recommendations that had spread discontent in the southern states, Prime minister Modi today said that the states that have effectively implemented the population control will be provided incentives.

Prime Minister Modi was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Diamond Jubilee Building’ of the Cancer Institute in Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Modi said the NDA government is committed to strengthening the “Cooperative federalism” and inclusive development.

Modi said that the central government has suggested the Finance Commission to consider creating a separate provision to incentivise the states who have effectively brought the state’s population under control. The Prime Minister also refuted the charges made by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah that the Terms of Reference in the 15th Finance Commission were biased towards southern states. Modi said such allegations are made by those who have certain “vested” interests.

“This index will surely benefit the states like Tamil Nadu which devoted a lot of efforts, energy and resources for population control,” Modi said.
