‘PM Modi Didn’t Understand COVID-19 At All, Lies And Propaganda Won’t Work’: Rahul Gandhi

“The PM is an event manager. We don’t need events. We need strategies,” he said

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s government’s handling of the second wave of COVID-19 and said that PM Modi “was responsible for the second wave” and that he “did not understand Covid at all”.

In a virtual press conference, Rahul also said that the death rate being reported by the government is false and “exponentially wrong.”

“Government needs to change the way it is working, lie and propaganda will not work, lies being spread about the death rate, this is not about politics it’s about saving lives,” he said.

Accusing PM Modi of “ignorance” on the virus, Rahul Gandhi said that strategies have to be put in place and that mere ‘events’ will not help.

“The PM is an event manager. We don’t need events. We need strategies,” he said

“The first wave no one understood…but the second wave is the PM’s responsibility. His stunts, his lies about deaths…” Rahul added.

Also criticizing the Centre on the vaccination policy, Rahul said that no chances should be given to the virus to mutate otherwise subsequent waves will be inevitable. Vaccines were the only permanent solution to Covid and lockdowns, social distancing and masks were temporary ones, Mr Gandhi said.

“Get your vaccination strategy right, don’t give chance to Covid virus to mutate. If we don’t get it right, there will be third, fourth and many waves in the country,” adding that “You have left the door open and have still not shut the door. You have vaccinated only three per cent of the population, leaving the rest open. US has vaccinated half its population. Brazil has vaccinated 8 to 9 per cent. They are not the vaccine capital, we are. We make vaccines,”

Rahul Gandhi said “I and many others warned the Centre about Covid, but they kept mocking at us. The problem is that Prime Minister and the Centre has not been able to understand Covid, it is not just a disease but an evolving disease… the more time it gets… it becomes even more dangerous.”
