PM Modi in first Mann Ki Baat after elections, asks citizen to conserve every drop of water

New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi resumed his Mann Ki Baat after elections, almost a month after the PM returned to power.

This was his first Mann Ki Baat in his second tenure as a Prime Minister.

In his last Mann Ki Baat which was held in February before the elections, PM Modi had expressed confidence that he would be returning to power. He was also assured that the programme will return after the polls.

“There came a moment when I felt the need to reach out to you immediately after Elections concluded. Then I thought no, the established Sunday sequence should be maintained. But this Sunday has made one wait endlessly!”, he said.

PM Modi also talked about Emergency which was imposed by the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi in 1975.

In his radio address, PM Modi said, “When the emergency was imposed, resistance against it was not just in political circles or politicians; the movement was not limited to the jails. There was anger in the conscience of everyone”.

PM Modi mentioned the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections too and called it “largest democratic election ever held in the world”.

The Prime Minister again requested citizens to gift a book instead of a bouquet.

“The aim is to conserve every drop of water”: PM Modi

PM Modi also addressed the growing water crisis that seems to have hit the entire country.

There is no fixed way to conserve water. In different parts, different methods may be adopted but the aim is same- to conserve every drop of water,” the PM said.

“With the significance of water in mind, a new Jal Shakti ministry has been established in the country. This will allow quicker decision-making on all water issues”, he said.

Appealing for a national movement for conserving and preserving water – similar to Swachh Bharat- PM Modi said, “I request to all Indians, including eminent people from all walks of life to create awareness on water conservation. Please share knowledge of traditional methods of water conservation. If you know about any individuals or NGOs working on water, do share about them.”

“Water crisis hits many parts of the nation every year. You will be surprised that only 8% of the rain water in the whole year is harvested in our country”, he claimed.

PM Modi has also asked people across the country to share methods to conserve water using the #JanShakti4JalShakti on social media platforms.
