For weeks, there had been speculation that Sharma, who was made an MLC would be appointed as a minister in the UP cabinet. He was sent to PM Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi earlier this year to oversee the fight against COVID-19.

UP BJP Chief Swatantra Dev Singh on Saturday announced AK Sharma’s appointment as the new UP BJP Vice President along with Archana Mishra and Amit Valmiki being appointed as ministers (organization) for Lucknow Bulandshahr respectively.
Sharma’s announcement comes a day after the UP BJP Chief went to Delhi and met the party high command.

A Gujarat cadre IAS officer, AK Sharma joined the BJP in January this year after taking voluntary retirement from the service. a 1988 batch officer from the Mau district in Uttar Pradesh, he has worked with PM Modi in Gujarat. AK Sharma joined the party in the presence of state BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma at the party headquarters in Lucknow.
