“When WhatsApp sent messages to all those whose phones were hacked, such a message was also received by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra,” said Surjewala.
New Delhi| In a shocking allegation, Congress party claimed that the phones of three opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were hacked by the government. On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a similar claim.
Congress said that the other leader is Praful Patel, whose phone has been blocked. Praful Patel has been a Union minister in the past from the Nationalist Congress Party. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters Sunday afternoon, “When WhatsApp sent messages to all those whose phones were hacked, such a message was also received by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.”

Congress, claiming to “expose the BJP government” demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should answer these questions. Surjewala called the BJP an “Indian spying party” (Bharatiya Jasoos Party) and said that the government was silent despite knowing all about the issue. “On September 12, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad met with the Vice President of Facebook, but he did not raise the issue of hacking … there was a mysterious silence,” he said.
It was earlier this week when WhatsApp made a shocking revelation that around 1400 users globally were being spied by an unnamed entity which exploited the bug in WhatsApp video calling feature. WhatsApp said that for the hacking Israeli company NSO’s Pegasus spyware was used. The people included those from India too mostly, lawyers, human rights activists etc.
