Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Modi government is snooping on her and her phone is being tapped. She claimed that this is “very serious”.
Kolkata| The WhatsApp snoopgate row has created ripples in the political circle. While the government has asked for a detailed clarification from the personal messaging platform, the opposition is questioning the Centre. Adding to the list is West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The TMC chief claimed that the Modi government is snooping on her and her phone is being tapped. She claimed that this is “very serious”.
She claimed that the central government was completely aware of this breach. Her remark was in reference to WhatsApp’s clarification on Saturday that it had informed the Indian government of the privacy breach in May this year. However, the government refuted the claim saying that WhatsApp only notified about the bug and not the privacy breach.

Banerjee said, “My phone is tapped, I know that because I have got the information and have the evidence with me.” She alleged that this is being done at the behest of the “central government and two-three state governments”. She refused to divulge the names of the states but said that they are ruled by the BJP.
“Earlier WhatsApp was safe. Now your landline, mobile phone and WhatsApp message, nothing is safe. Being spied on. Now our messages are being recorded. How can our government instruct the authorities? I request the Prime Minister to look into this issue,” Mamata Banerjee added.
