Rahul Gandhi should apologize for remarks on Savarkar remarks says Devendra Fadnavis

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also arrive for Maharashtra assembly’s winter session wearing ‘I am Savarkar’ cap

Nagpur: On Monday Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs arrived for the winter session of Maharashtra assembly in Nagpur wearing caps on which ‘I am Savarkar’ was written. BJP MLA’s wore caps saying ‘I am Savarkar Too’ to mark protest against Rahul Gandhi for his comments against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also arrive for Maharashtra assembly’s winter session wearing ‘I am Savarkar’ cap. BJP MLAs also raised slogans at the Vidhan Bhavan entrance on Veer Savarkar issue.

Fadnavis said that Rahul Gandhi has insulted Veer Savarkar and they sought an apology from him against it.

Addressing the media, Fadnavis said, “In the Maharashtra Assembly, Rahul Gandhi made a comment on Veer Savarkar. Our party had given a notice in the Vidhan Sabha today against his action and when I stood up to speak about it, the speaker dismissed everything I said in the pride of Savarkar. I have raised a question in the assembly that is this a Britisher’s legislative assembly or is it an independent India’s legislative assembly because in British rule we could not speak about Veer Savarkar. I’m shocked that the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other ShivSena MLAs also did not speak a word on this. The hunger for power has made them keep quiet and this is an insult to Savarkar. We will not let go of this matter unless Rahul Gandhi apologizes for his statement.”

The BJP leader said, “Today, the comments of Rahul Gandhi is shameful. Maybe he does not know anything about Savarkar. Facing imprisonment twice in the Kala Pani (Cellular Jail in Andamans) has happened only to one Individual, Veer Savarkar. No one has probably faced the torture that Savarkar did for 12 years inside the prison. Rahul Gandhi can’t even spend 12 hours in such a prison and hence, he has no right to say this. One doesn’t become a ‘Gandhi’ by just adding it to your name. It was an absolutely wrong comment.”

On December 15, while speaking at Congress’s Bharat Bachao rally in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi said that he will not apologize for the “rape in India” comments.
