Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to his constituency in Wayanad, visited the office along with other senior leaders of the party and took stock of the damage.

Wayanad: Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited his office in Wayanad, which was reportedly vandalized by the activists of SFI, the students’ wing of the ruling CPI (M), over the buffer zone issue and termed the act as “irresponsible.”

Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to his constituency in Wayanad, visited the office along with other senior leaders of the party and took stock of the damage.

He later, interacted with the reporters  and said that it is the office of the people of Wayanad and what had been done by the Left students’ cadre was “quite an unfortunate thing.” But, he made it clear that violence never resolves problems and he does not harbor any anger or hostility towards them.

“Everywhere in the country, you see the idea that violence will resolve problems. And, violence never resolves problems… It’s not a good thing to do.. they acted irresponsibly. But, I don’t have any anger or hostility towards them,” Mr. Gandhi said.

Mr. Gandhi further, called the SFI activists who indulged in violence “kids”.

Last week, a protest march of the SFI against Rahul Gandhi turned violent after a group of left activists allegedly barged into his office here and vandalized it, prompting Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to strongly condemn the incident and warn of stern action against the miscreants.

Strongly condemning “the act of violence” by SFI at its top leader’s office at Kalpetta in Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency Wayanad, the Congress staged a statewide protest, which eventually turned violent in some areas.

The incident occurred when the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists marched to Rahul Gandhi’s Office alleging his inaction on the issue of buffer zones around forests.

“I desire unification within the nation. I don’t want strife in a historically liberal nation. We ought to cooperate,” Amartya Sen said.

Kolkata: Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, who was in the city on Thursday, expressed concern about the state of affairs in India and suggested that people struggle to keep their togetherness. He added that there should be no religious differences.

At the Amartya Research Centre’s opening in the Salt Lake area, the renowned economist made a statement, “I believe I would respond “yes” if someone asked if I was afraid of anything. There is now cause for concern. Fear has been caused by the country’s current position.”

He added, “I desire unification within the nation. I don’t want strife in a historically liberal nation. We need to cooperate.”

The elderly man emphasized the importance of remaining unified in accordance with the country’s traditions while asserting that India cannot belong only to Hindus or Muslims.

“India cannot be solely a Hindu nation. Again, India cannot be made by Muslims alone. Everyone must collaborate,” Sen continued.
