Ramchandra Guha says Kerala did a disastrous job by electing Rahul Gandhi

Ramchandra Guha said, “The Congress has fallen. It was the biggest party of the era of independence but has now become a useless family company.”

New Delhi| Historian Ramchandra Guha has slammed the Congress party and former party President Rahul Gandhi. Calling Rahul Gandhi a fifth generation of the Gandhi dynasty, he said that the Gandhi scion does not stand a chance in front of Prime minister Narendra Modi. Guha was speaking at Kerala Literature Festival on Friday.

Speaking at the event he said, “Kerala has done many wonderful things for India, but did a devastating job by electing Rahul Gandhi.” He was referring to Rahul Gandhi’s victory from Wayanad. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi contested from two seats: Amethi and Wayanad. Though he lost Amethi, his traditional seat, he won from Wayanad by a record margin.

Stressing his point, Ramchandra Guha said, “The Congress has fallen. It was the biggest party of the era of independence but has now become a useless family company.” He also blamed the rise of Hindutva and blind patriotism in the country on the Congress party. “I have no personal enmity with Rahul Gandhi. He is a decent man, but young India does not want a fifth-generation dynasty. If the Malayalis work to elect Rahul Gandhi even in 2024, you are only benefiting Narendra Modi,” He said.

According to Guha, “The biggest advantage of Narendra Modi is that he is not Rahul Gandhi. Modi has made himself. He has run a state for 15 years, he has good administrative experience. They work hard and never go to Europe on vacation. Believe me, I am saying this seriously. Even if Rahul Gandhi gets even wiser, starts to work harder, never go to Europe to take holidays, he will still be at a loss like a fifth-generation dynasty because he could not stand by himself.”

Ramchandra Guha also did not mince his words criticizing, Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He said: “India is becoming more democratic and less feudal. But the Gandhi family does not understand this. You (Sonia) are in Delhi and your empire is getting smaller. But your ‘Chamchas’ still tells you that you are the king.”

Guha exemplified the statement of his master and sociologist Andre Beteille saying that as long as the Gandhi family remains in politics, the name of the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, will continue to rise in the debate. “After all, why every time Modi says what Nehru did in Kashmir, what he did in China, what he did in Triple Talaq. This is because Rahul Gandhi is in politics. If Rahul Gandhi disappears, Modi will have only one thing to say about his policies and his failure,” Guha explained.

According to Ramachandra Guha, because of the hypocrisy of Indian leftists, the country is in a state of rising nationalism today. Left parties have always loved other countries more than India. In recent times, Hindutva has been promoted in India because of nationalism worldwide and the promotion of Islamic fundamentalism in neighbouring countries.
