Ravi Shankar Prasad said the senior Congress leaders make insensitive comments while the party president Rahul Gandhi visits temples and claims to be a “Shiv-Bhakt”.
New Delhi| Countering senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, BJP today accused him of “mocking” the “Ram temple initiative”. It also accused him of disrespecting the Sardar Patel statue. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in a press conference said that the comments made by P Chidambaram were “highly irresponsible and very provocative”.
Ravi Shankar Prasad further accused Congress of hypocrisy. He said the senior Congress leaders make insensitive comments while the party president Rahul Gandhi visits temples and claims to be a “Shiv-Bhakt”. BJP’s response has come in the light of P Chidambaram’s tweet criticising Modi government of achieving nothing in the last four years.
Chidambaram had tweeted, “At the beginning of five years, the promise is for Development, Jobs and Money in every citizen’s bank account. Nothing achieved, at the end of five years, the new promise is for grand Temples, giant Statues and Doles.”

Warning Chidambaram to not play with the sentiments, Prasad asked Rahul Gandhi to make party’s stand on the issue clear. he even demanded an apology from him and his mother Sonia Gandhi. He further said that the party has mocked Sardar Patel. “There cannot be a bigger insult to Patel. The Congress worked to erase Patel’s legacy and the BJP is proud that the biggest statue in his memory was built under the Modi government,” Prasad said.
Commenting on Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge comparing Modi to Hitler, Prasad said that he cannot even take a step without Gandhi family’s permission while the BJP is being run on democratic principles.
