Massive protests have broken out across the country after the center announced the new scheme under which military aspirants in the 17.5 to 21 years age bracket will be inducted for four years.
After four years, 75 percent of the recruits will have to compulsorily retire with a sum of around ₹ 12 lakh but no pension benefits. The 25 percent of recruits retained will be retained for a 15-year tenure and included in regular armed forces.
Military Veterans have argued that the four-year term may make soldiers risk-averse, and protesters have cited uncertainty on what they would do after the tenure ends.
Meanwhile, a Congress delegation is set to meet President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday, to raise issues with the new military recruitment scheme and demand the scheme’s rollback.
