Saradha chit fund: Ex Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar seeks more time

Kolkata | Former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar sent an email to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking more time to appear before it.

It comes after Rajeev Kumar did not turn up at the CBI office on Saturday after being summoned by the agency in connection with multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.

The ex-top cop was asked to present himself at the CBI office in Salt Lake at 10 am on Saturday in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam but officers of the agency said he not only failed to turn up, his phone was also switched off.

The CBI officials will consult with their law officers over Rajeev Kumar’s request, and are not looking for any immediate coercive action.

Rajeev Kumar was part of a special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the state government to probe the scam before the Supreme Court transferred it to the CBI. Kumar is accused of tampering with and withholding vital evidence and documents and trying to shield influential persons who had received cash from the Saradha Group.
