In a joint petition, 6 TMC MLAs have demanded the removal of Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra from her position as Nadia North organizational district president.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra seems to have found herself in trouble once again, this time she’s facing flak from her own party members. Six MLAs from the Trinamool Congress Party, have written to TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Out of the 6 MLAs, five are from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency, and one belongs to the Karimpur constituency.
In a joint petition, the legislators have demanded the removal of Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra from her position as Nadia North organizational district president. This follows the growing dissatisfaction within the party members over Moitra’s leadership style.

All the six MLAs in the letter have accused Moitra of running the district’s party affairs unilaterally, fostering instability, and promoting factionalism. Multiple allegations from her party members include her frequent absence from the constituency and lack of communication with MLAs.
They also accuse her of making unilateral decisions without any discussion regarding key organizational changes. They further alleged that the MP was unavailable on most occasions, She was neither available on the phone nor at her district office and she was mostly in Delhi.
Who are these six MLAs who signed the petition?
A copy of the complaint was signed by Kallol Khan from the Nakashipara assembly segment, Krishnanagar South MLA Ujjwal Biswas, Chapra MLA Rukbanur Rahman, Kaliganj MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed, Manik Bhattacharya the MLA from Palashipara who was recently granted bail in a recruitment scam case. Lastly, Karimpur MLA Bimalendu Sinha Roy also inked the complaint, though his assembly constituency falls out of the Krishnanagar parliamentary seat boundary.
Interestingly, other than the Karimpur Assembly constituency, the other 5 constituencies fall under the Krishnagar Lok Sabha constituency border. Furthermore, Chapra MLA Rukbanur Rahman, who also serves as the district’s organizing committee chairman, said that the Complaint was not only forwarded to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee but also the TMC state president Subrata Bakshi urging disciplinary action against Moitra. However, he declined to disclose the content of the letter.
Every seat in the Lok Sabha comprises five to seven Assembly constituencies. The Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency has 7 which means, 5 legislators under Ms Moitra’s parliamentary constituency have lodged complaints against her.
Meanwhile the remaining two legislators i.e. Tapas Saha and Mukul Roy of Tehatta and Krishnanagar Uttar did not sign the letter. Reports suggest that Saha’s ongoing CBI investigation and Roy’s unclear political affiliation were the reasons for their exclusion.
What are the allegations against Mahua Moitra?
According to the complaint, Moitra made drastic changes in the party’s organizational structure without even consulting or discussing with the local legislators. She has been also accused of reshuffling 3 block presidents, 16 anchal presidents, and 116 booth presidents. The six MLAs claim that Moitra’s decisions led to instability and alienated the grassroots workers, who were particularly from the minority community.
Serious concerns are being raised over Moitra’s Governance Style
In the letter the MLAs allege that since Moitra was re-elected to Lok Sabha in June “she avoids engaging in discussions with them. She has been “ignoring” her MLAs during her visits in their respective constituencies. However, she prefers to move and engage with her close associates.
They further claim that her leadership style undermines unity, disrupts party functions, and fuels political instability. The legislators also accused her of keeping the assembly representatives in the dark while fostering “anti-social elements” and making promises to block leaders about replacing current MLAs in the 2026 Assembly elections.
One such aggrieved MLA stated that due to Moitra’s actions, TMC’s image has been damaged tremendously, especially among minority voters. According to reports, the district has seen a notable dip in support since 2021. The party lost 12% of its vote share compared to 2016 vote share.
In addition to all the accusations, the complaint also noted Moitra’s absence from anti-BJP programs in the district. This further undermines party efforts they alleged. The lawmakers in the letter emphasized the need for her removal to safeguard the party’s unity and credibility ahead of the 2026 assembly polls.

Well, this is not the first time Moitra has faced internal revolt. In 2019 similar complaints were made against Moitra after her initial appointment as the district president. After which in 2021, CM Mamata Banerjee removed her from her position. She was reappointed last year in 2023 amid the ongoing controversy over her expulsion from Parliament.
Surprisingly, despite facing multiple challenges Mamata Banerjee and TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee have publicly supported Moitra in the past. This was seen particularly during the cash-for-query accusations which also involved the Adani Group. Meanwhile, the reports suggest that the recent complaint might prompt them to reconsider Moitra’s role.
According to news agency PTI, a senior TMC leader in Kolkata indicated that the party leadership is taking this issue very seriously. The MLAs have urged a detailed inquiry into Moitra’s conduct and requested disciplinary action against her. CM Mamata Banerjee is also likely to address the matter soon.
But as of now, Mahua Moitra, currently in Delhi attending the Parliament’s Winter Session, has not commented on the allegations or the letter, dismissing them as “district-level rubbish.” However, her absence and silence on the matter have further fueled speculations about her leadership and standing within the party.
Now all eyes remain on Mamata Banerjee as to how she will handle this growing dissent within her party.
