Nawab Malik said, “The rift between ShivSena and BJP was over the CM post. So we are not going to contest for the Chief Ministership post
Mumbai: Maharashtra’s next government will be led by the ShivSena according to the current sources and the common minimum programme (CMP) being worked out along with the Congress and the NCP ahead of its formation will be in the state’s interest. NCP leader Nawab Malik has said that his party has agreed for ShivSena chief minister of Maharashtra
Nawab Malik said, “The rift between ShivSena and BJP was over the CM post. So we are not going to contest for the Chief Ministership post. The CM will be from ShivSena.” However, Sena has yet not taken a call on whether party chief Uddhav Thackeray will be the CM or someone else will be nominated for the post. Sena leader Eknath Shinde is said to be another contender if Uddhav Thackeray decides to stay out of the government.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Congress and ShivSena held discussions on the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for a coalition government. The sources confirm that the CMP has been sealed and Shiv Sena will get a full-term chief ministership while Congress and NCP will get to appoint one deputy chief minister each from there party. The common minimum program focusses on farmer and youth issues.
The BJP and ShivSena contested elections together on the October 21 elections in an alliance, secured a majority by winning 105 and 56 seats, in the 288-member Assembly. But the BJP did not fulfil Sena’s demand of sharing the chief minister’s post, leading to falling apart of the nearly three-decade-old alliance.
Apparently the Sena has sought for a 16-14-12 formula with NCP and Congress, while the grand old party has stressed on a 14-14-14 sharing plan.
After three days of President’s rule was imposed in the state this development comes and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari in a report to the Centre stated that formation of a stable government was not possible in the current situation despite all his efforts.
