Varanasi | The Samajwadi party today dropped its candidate Shalini Yadav on the Varanasi Lok sabha constituency against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and replaced her with Tej Bahadur.
Tej Bahadur, a BSF jawan, was sacked for complaining about the food served to the troops in Indian Army.
The former jawan had earlier planned to contest the election as an independent candidate and had expressed to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency.
Yadav had already filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate but will now be contesting on the SP symbol.
In 2017, a video featuring Tej Bahadur in army uniform went viral after he alleged that poor quality food was being served to security forces serving at the border. He was then serving as a BSF constable near Line of Control in Poonch district.
The jawan was dismissed from service after he was found guilty of violating the SOP (standard operating procedure). The charges against him included carrying two mobile phones while on active duty and posting his photographs in uniform on social media.
With Yadav contesting on SP symbol, now in Varanasi, there would be a triangular contest between him, Prime Minister Modi and Congress candidate Ajay Rai.
The seat of Varanasi will go on polling in the last phase of the Lok Sabha election that is on the 19th of May. and results will be declared on May 23rd.
