“This Freedom Is Incomplete…”: Out of Detention Farooq Abdullah Meets Son Omar Abdullah

After his release on Friday, Farooq had said that his independence was incomplete until the release of Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and other leaders.

 

Srinagar| A day after the release of National Conference President Farooq Abdullah from detention, he met his son and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This was the first meeting of the father and son in the last seven months. After his release, Farooq expressed his desire to meet Omar. The Jammu and Kashmir administration then allowed him to meet Omar in the sub-jail of Srinagar. The two stayed together for about an hour. Omar also met other members of the Abdullah family.

Omar was detained on the night of August 4, before abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. He has been detained under the Public Safety Act since February 5. Many leaders, including PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, are still under house arrest.

Ghulam Nabi Azad arrived to meet Farooq

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad arrived at his house on Saturday to meet Farooq. He has been demanding the release of all the detained leaders in Kashmir, including Farooq, since August. He also raised the issue of detained leaders of Jammu and Kashmir during the winter session of Parliament. Ghulam Nabi is among those who petitioned the Supreme Court for the release of detained leaders.

After his release on Friday, Farooq had said that his independence was incomplete until the release of Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and other leaders. It is expected that the Government of India will release all those who were taken into political custody. “I thank all those who have prayed for my release,” Farooq Abdullah Said.
