Election 2019

Time has come to review Election Commission’s selection process: Congress

New Delhi | Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has demanded a new selection process for the Election Commission officials.

Calling the EC biased and a “pawn of PM Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah”, Surjewala asked to look for a new selection process in the government body.

Surjewala accused ECI of “punishing democracy” instead of punishing the goons and hooligans of the BJP, led by their President Amit Shah.

“It has created a fear psychosis by admitting ECI’s own inability to hold a free and fair poll. The order of the ECI is an unpardonable betrayal of the constitution”, Surjewala asserted.

He hit out at the EC again and alleged that they have become “pawns” of the BJP.

“Has ECI become a mere pawn in the hands of Modi-Shah duo? As democracy is under attack from ruling BJP, time for ECI to submit before the people of India, instead of being stifled by PM and answer its actions and conduct”, he said.

He further went on to demand answers from the EC, that why did they wait for 24 hours to prohibit campaigning.

“Why did the ECI postpone it’s order prohibiting campaigning by 24 hours until 10 PM today? Wasn’t ECI’s order aimed solely at giving a free pass to the 2 public rallies of PM Modi at Mathurapur and Dum Dum to be held today?”, he asked.

Talking about NaMo TV which airs Prime Minister Modi’s election campaign speeches, he said,”Country has witnessed how ECI hasn’t banned the NamoTV propaganda machine of the BJP despite repeated complaints”.

He also called the EC a “toothless tiger”.

Surjewala also called the enforcement of Article 324 a ‘parting gift’ by the Election Commission to the Narendra Modi government.

After the announcement was made, various Opposition leaders like BSP Chief Mayawati and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury have hit out at the EC and Modi government of being biased.
