TMC not a militant organisation like the BJP: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today called the BJP a “militant organization”, engaged in dividing people along religious lines and dared it to attack her party, the Trinamool Congress.

“We are not a militant organisation like the BJP. They are creating fights not only among Christians, Muslims but also among Hindus,” the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo said. Mamata’s statement comes at a time tensions between the two parties are escalating in the state.

Ms Banerjee also alleged that the BJP is manipulating Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs to increase its vote share in the state and urged her party workers to prepare for the next Lok Sabha poll as the entire country is looking forward to it.

On June 2, body of a BJP worker, Dulal Kumar, was found hanging from a pole in Balarampur area of Purulia district. Similarly, on May 30, the body of another BJP activist Trilochan Mahato was found hanging from a tree in the same district. This was followed by the deaths of at least two TMC workers. Following these incidents, the TMC accused the BJP for the alleged killings while the latter rubbished their claims.

Without naming Dilip Ghosh, Mamata Banerjee slammed him. She said, ” Someone is calling for encounter. Someone wants to shoot, others want to kill, there are few who are looking to hurl bombs.” She further said, ” I am telling them to come. Show your strength. So far only you have seen Panchayat. All your guns are because of power in Delhi. What will happen when that goes”.

Ms Banerjee accused the BJP, the Congress, the CPI(M) and the Maoists of joining hands against the Trinamool in Bengal and alleged that the BJP is manipulating EVMs to increase its vote share in the state. “The work for the revision of electoral rolls has begun. Ensure that the procedures are followed. It is the BJP’s habit to tamper EVMs. Our party workers must be alert and monitor them,” she said.

Mamata scolded party workers from districts like Jhargram and Purulia where TMC has done badly in the Panchayat polls and asked them to buck up. She gave a strong warning to people who are ‘running parallel organisation’ inside TMC and told them they can leave the party if they want to.
