Expressing his grief over the incident, VK Singh tweeted, “We have failed Asifa as humans. But she will not be denied justice.”
Union Minister of States for External Affairs VK Singh today tweeted demanding Justice for Asifa- the 8-year-old who was brutally raped and then murdered in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua. Expressing his grief over the incident, VK Singh tweeted, “We have failed Asifa as humans. But she will not be denied justice.”
VK Singh is the first Minister from PM Modi’s cabinet to break silence over the brutal gang-rape. He shared a picture of Asifa and shared a note along with it. The note read, “There should be a difference between Humans and Animals. But, if we see what happened to the eight-year-old in Kathua, it seems being human is a blot.” He further said that the incident is heart-wrenching but the perpetrators should be given such a severe punishment that becomes an example for the upcoming generation.
In a veiled dig at the supporters of the accused, VK Singh said, “Those who are shielding the accused under the garb of religion will also be counted as accused.” He also requested them not to bring shame to the nation or religion.

Asifa was kidnapped by some men on January 10. The accused wanted to oust her community from the village Rasana. According to the charge sheet filed by Crime Branch, the accused who also involve two minors, an ex-bureaucrat and a police officer kept Asifa inside a temple where she was sedated and raped several times. The charge sheet also mentions the use of electric shock. The accused then killed her by hitting a rock on her head and threw her dead body near a jungle.
The incident has sparked state-wide outrage in Jammu and Kashmir. The police were also accused of trying to cover up the incident. The police have so far arrested six people in the case including Sanji Ram, the main accused, Deepak Khajuria, Surender Verma, Parvesh Kumaru, Sanji Ram’s underage nephew and his son Vishal Jangotra.
