“What’s wrong in taking name of your parents and great men during oath?” asks Uddhav Thackeray

After an uproar over Swearing-in procedure, Uddhav Thackeray said, “What is the harm in taking the name of your parents and great men during the swearing-in ceremony?”

Mumbai| On Saturday, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (ShivSena-NCP and Congress) government won the confidence vote (floor test) by 169 votes in a special session of the assembly. Congress leader Ashok Chavan moved the motion in the House. The BJP objected to the session in the House and 105 of its MLAs walked out before the trust vote. While 4 other MLAs remained neutral during voting.

There was no vote against the government. Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis questioned how did the session begin without Vande Mataram? This session is against the rules and hence will demand the Governor to cancel the session proceedings. During this, he was hooted by the MLAs of the coalition. BJP members also shouted slogans. The alliance had issued a whip to the MLAs.

At the same time, Nana Patole and Kisan Kathare of BJP will be the candidates for the post of Speaker. Elections will be held on Sunday for this. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari gave Uddhav Thackeray till December 3 to prove his majority. The three parties in the alliance have 154 MLAs. However, they got 15 votes more. The majority figure is 145.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said after the vote of confidence – “I thank the House. I have come to the House for the first time. What is the harm in taking the name of your parents and great men during the swearing-in ceremony? If it is a crime then I will do it again and again. Shivaji is our God. I am among those fighting in front. There are differences, but there was an attempt to wrongly place differences here. I need a Maharashtra that is of saints, of heroes, of great men. ”

On the other hand, BJP MLAs shouted slogans of ‘Dadagiri band Karo’. The speaker told Fadnavis, “Your party was not expected to behave like this. The proceedings are being broadcast live on the orders of the Supreme Court. Therefore, you should ask your members to take care of the dignity of the House.”

Fadnavis said, “The way in which Uddhav Thackeray introduced the ministers was not right as they did not take an oath according to the rules of the Constitution.” On this, the speaker stopped him and said that the incidents happened outside the House should not be discussed here.

The rhetoric of the ruling party and opposition

BJP state president Chandrakant Patil said, “The new government has decided to violate all laws. The rule is that the Protem Speaker appointed by the Governor bears the responsibility till the new MLAs are elected before the Speaker. Despite this, the Protem Speaker was replaced. Now if you have a majority, then make your president according to tradition. Despite this, Kalidas Kolumbkar had to resign and Dilip Valse Patil was sworn in as the Protem Speaker. Will go to Supreme Court for swearing. ”

A secret ballot will spill the beans: Patil

Patil also said, “The rule is to elect the first Speaker of the Assembly. After this, the floor test is done, but here the floor test is being done first and the assembly speaker will be elected tomorrow. There is an attempt to openly elect the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly rather than the secret ballot. If you have 170+ MLAs, why are you afraid? Get the secret ballot, everything will be clear. I challenge that if the secret ballot is conducted, they will not be able to elect their assembly speaker. We will work very effectively as the main opposing side. ”

NCP leader said- BJP MPs started this tradition

NCP Spokesperson Nawab Malik said- “Today BJP is saying that they will knock the doors of Governor and the Court for the way the oath was taken. Let me tell you that this tradition was started by BJP MPs. If the oath is taken wrong and a decision will be taken on it, I think that the membership of most of the BJP MPs will be cancelled. ”
