“Why Were Our Soldiers Martyred If China Hasn’t Captured Land?”: Sonia Gandhi Questions Modi Govt

Sonia Gandhi asked, “If China has challenged our regional sovereignty in Ladakh, will the Prime Minister assure the entire country on the border situation?”

New Delhi| The Congress has been constantly attacking the central government over the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh’s Galwan valley in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi also questioned the Centre on Friday as a part of the party’s “Speak Up For Jawans” campaign. Sonia Gandhi asked PM Modi to explain that if our land was not occupied by China, then how were our soldiers martyred? Rahul Gandhi said that the nation stands with the Prime Minister but he must tell the truth.

Sonia Gandhi recalling PM Modi’s statement at the all-party meeting said that the Prime Minister is saying China has not infiltrated into our territory. “On the other hand, the Defense Minister and the Foreign Minister are constantly talking about it. Today, when we are paying tribute to our martyrs, India wants to know how and why our 20 soldiers were martyred?” she said.

She asked, “If China has challenged our regional sovereignty in Ladakh, will the Prime Minister assure the entire country on the border situation?”

Rahul Gandhi said that the entire nation today stands with the Army and the government. “A few days ago, the Prime Minister said that no one has taken an inch of land in India. No one has entered our country. But we are getting to hear, people are saying, it is visible in satellite photos, the people of Ladakh are saying, Army generals are saying that China has taken our land not in one place but at three places.”

Rahul said, “Prime Minister has to tell the truth. If China has captured our land then PM Modi must tell the truth, without fear.”

At an all-party meeting convened on June 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the sacrifice of soldiers will not go in vain. “The sovereignty of the country is supreme. Nothing can stop us from protecting the country,” Modi said.
