RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: Victimโ€™s Parents Not Seeking Death For Convict

The parents of the 31-year-old doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkataโ€™s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have said that they do not seek the death penalty for Sanjoy Roy, convicted of the crime. Victims lawyer Gargi Goswami informed the Calcutta High Court of their stance during a hearing on Monday.

Goswami, who is representing the victimโ€™s family, said to the court, โ€œJust because their daughter has lost her life does not mean the convict will also have to lose his life.โ€

The High Court reserved its judgement after an initial hearing of appeals filed by the West Bengal government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
