The Congress leader further said:  “Sycophants are present in every political party. We need to stay away from them.”

Ahead of the Congress party’s ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan mega rally on January 27. In Madhya Pradesh’s Mhow, which is also Dr BR Ambedkar’s birthplace, State Congress chief Jitu Patwari has stirred a political row with his remarks.

“Congress is afflicted with the cancer of groupism. We’ll have to end this cancer, or else we’ll be finished. If we don’t eliminate the cancer of groupism, then we all will be finished,” he said.

The Congress leader further said:  “Sycophants are present in every political party. We need to stay away from them.”

As soon as Patwari’s video went viral, BJP spokesperson and former Congress leader Narendra Saluja, reacting to the statement, said:

“When we said there is factionalism in Congress, Patwari denied it. When Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh criticized Patwari in the political affairs committee meeting, he made Kamal Nath issue a false tweet to deny it. Now, in the home district of the Leader of Opposition (in the Madhya Pradesh assembly) Umang Singhar, Patwari himself admits to the cancer of groupism in Congress,” the BJP leader said.

Mr Saluja also questioned Mr Patwari about who he holds responsible for the “cancer.” “Is it Kamal Nath, Digvijaya Singh, Umang Singhar, Arun Yadav, or someone else?” he asked.

Soon after the controversy erupted, Patwari got into damage control mode, blamed the BJP’s public relations department, and said that the ‘BJP’s media cell issues its agenda to the media houses’. Patwari said, “Unity is a way to make the party strong, so it is natural that such things are discussed within the organization.

Patwari further said: “Whatever may have to be done to end factionalism in our party, I will do it, and we will end it with courage and unity. We will make repeated efforts for this and will shake the foundations of BJP.”

Reacting to the state Congress chief’s statement, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha said: “It’s his personal opinion. I don’t see such a problem in Madhya Pradesh or elsewhere.”

“People have their own opinions. Some people are not satisfied. But that is a problem of every political party.”

Tankha further said, “Every person who enters politics has their hopes and aspirations, and when those do not get fulfilled, one gets frustrated. I don’t see it in a bad light. We should give such leadership who can work to fulfil these hopes and aspirations.”

Hitting out at the BJP, the Congress MP said: “The BJP should first answer about the corruption in the Transport scam.”

Notably, the statement comes when there are reports of Congress leaders belonging to former chief ministers Kamal Nath, and Digvijaya Singh’s camp alleged that Nath and Singh were not consulted over key decisions involving organisational appointments and event planning at the state level. However, both the senior leaders denied such claims.

Meanwhile, PCC Chief Jeetu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar are overseeing the preparations for the Jai Bapu Jai Bhim Jai Samvidhan rally. Jeetu Patwari has formed 11 different committees for the preparations of this event.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will participate in the concluding rally.

Besides, Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, Leaders of Opposition from different states, and State Congress Presidents will also be present. Reports suggest The state Congress has invited workers from all over the state for this event.
