Saif Attack Case: Face Recognition Confirms Accused-CCTV Grab Match

Saif Ali Khan

In the latest update in the Saif Ali Khan attack case, The face of Shariful Islam Shehzad, the person who was arrested for allegedly stabbing Saif Ali Khan in his apartment, has matched with the CCTV footage taken from the actor’s residence, according to reports.Forensic officials at the Kalina FSL conducted the facial recognition test on the accused.

Earlier, Shariful’s father in Bangladesh, speaking to the media on the phone, claimed that the person seen in the CCTV footage was not his son and was falsely implicated. Reports suggest that Shariful’s father plans to protest at the Indian High Commission.

Meanwhile, a Mumbai court on Wednesday denied the police’s request for extended custody of Islam. The Bandra magistrate’s court ruled that no fresh grounds had been presented to justify further police custody and sent Islam to a 14-day judicial remand.

However, citing provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the court noted that if new developments arise, police could request custody again within the permissible period. Under BNS, police can seek up to 15 days of custody, either continuously or in parts, over a 40- or 60-day period, depending on the severity of the crime.

Despite the court’s denial of extended custody, Mumbai Police maintain their stance that they have “ample and strong evidence” against the accused.Earlier, there were reports that the accused’s fingerprints did not match those received from the crime scene.

Reacting to this, the Mumbai police on Tuesday said they have not officially received the fingerprint examination report in the Saif Ali Khan case. However, they said they have ample evidence to prove the involvement of the arrested accused in the attack on the actor.

Saif Ali Khan was discharged from the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on January 21 and has not made a public comment regarding the matter.
