Uttarakhand To Implement Uniform Civil Code Today

Uttarakhand will implement the Uniform Civil Code on (27 January 2025) Monday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the Uniform Civil Code does not target any person or community.

The government has completed all preparations to implement the law, including getting approval for the rules for implementing the Act and training the officials concerned. According to state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the law will bring uniformity in society and ensure equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens.

“UCC is just an offering made by our state in the great ‘yagya’ being performed by the Prime Minister to make the country a developed, organised, harmonious, and self-reliant nation,” CM Dhami said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

The BJP promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand in the run-up to the 2022 assembly polls. These polls saw the party storm to power for a second consecutive term, something no other party in the state has done since its creation in 2000.

“The historic mandate was because of the party’s commitment to passing the UCC”, CM Dhami.
