Bhopal: A minimum of Eight people were killed in a massive fire that broke out at a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Monday. Visuals from the scene showed huge plumes of smoke billowing from the building.
The fire erupted at New Life Multi-speciality Hospital near Damoh Naka area of Jabalpur in the afternoon. Five patients and three hospital staff lost their lives due to the flames. At least 12 people are also injured, according to the police.
“It was a massive fire, and our teams rescued all the people trapped inside the hospital,” Akhilesh Gaur, Jabalpur’s Chief Superintendent of police informed. He further added that the fire has been put out.
According to the police, a short circuit is the cause of the fire.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a compensation of ₹ 5 lakhs each for the families of those who lost their lives in the fire and 50,000 for those seriously injured.
“In this hour of grief, the bereaved family should not consider themselves alone, I and the entire Madhya Pradesh are with the family.” The CM said.
“The state government will provide an aide of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50 thousand to the seriously injured. The government will also bear the cost of complete treatment of the injured.”The tweet read.
