“The Truth Will Finally Win”: CM Siddaramaiah On MUDA Scam Row

Shashank
MUDA Scam

The alleged MUDA scam focuses on the value of land allotted to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, in a prime area of Mysuru as compensation for land elsewhere taken for infra development. The allegation is that the value of land allotted grossly – by ₹ 4,000 to ₹ 5,000 crore – exceeds that taken.

Hours after the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petition by CM Siddaramaiah challenging the Governor’s sanction for his prosecution in the alleged MUDA scam, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah slammed opposition Bharatiya Janata Party’s revenge politics.

He said, “I believe in the law and the Constitution… The truth will finally win.” Interacting with the media, the CM said: “I have faith in the courts. All MLAs, leaders, workers of our party, and the Congress leadership have supported me and encouraged me to continue the fight. The BJP and JDS resorted to political retaliation against me because I am pro-poor and fighting for social justice.”

Reacting to demands of his resignation, the Kuruba strongman said: “Why should I resign? HD Kumaraswamy is on bail. Did he resign? In an inquiry stage, how does resignation arise? We will face them politically”.

What Is The MUDA Scam?

The alleged MUDA scam focuses on the value of land allotted to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, in a prime area of Mysuru as compensation for land elsewhere taken for infra development. The allegation is that the value of land allotted grossly – by ₹ 4,000 to ₹ 5,000 crore – exceeds that taken.

In a complaint filed by an activist, TJ Abraham, that named the Chief Minister, his wife and son, and senior MUDA officials, it was alleged that allotment of 14 alternative sites in a Mysuru neighbourhood was illegal and caused a loss of ₹ 45 crore, according to an NDTV report.

Responding to the claims, Siddaramaiah reacts by saying that the land was gifted by his wife’s brother in 1998. However, another activist, Snehmayi Krishna, alleged the brother had procured it illegally and registered it using forged documents with help from government officials. The land was shown to have been bought in 1998. Siddaramaiah’s wife sought compensation in 2014 when he was the CM.
