As Eknath Shinde and his supporting Shiv Sena MLAs prepare to depart from Guwahati for Goa, former chief minister and leader of the opposition Devendra Fadnavis has summoned a gathering of BJP leaders at his residence in Mumbai this afternoon.
Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who would soon travel to Goa with his 40-odd MLAs from Guwahati, escalated his rebellion against Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday. Shinde further asserted his claim to the Shiv Sena’s legacy as his party rather than Thackeray’s.
Shiv Sena would be donating Rs 51 lakh to aid the Assamese citizens devastated by the floods, according to Shinde.
Shinde tweeted, “Shiv Sena MLAs and allies have decided to contribute Rs 51 lakhs to the Assam CM’s relief fund to help the flood-affected people.”
Devendra Fadnavis, the former chief minister and leader of the opposition, has scheduled a gathering of BJP leaders for this afternoon at his home in Mumbai.
Furthermore, it appears that Shinde’s support is growing as independent MLAs predict that a BJP-led coalition will win the state’s next election. “I joined the BJP at its beginning. In the state Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis spoke out in support of me… MLAs will become irate if work does not get done in their districts.” There is no issue with the BJP taking office in the state, according to independent MLA Rajendra Raut.
Sunil Prabhu, the chief whip for the Shiv Sena, has asked the Supreme Court to hear his appeal against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s order to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to demonstrate his majority on the floor of the House on June 30. At 5:00 PM, the court will hear the petition.
Shiv Sena’s senior attorney, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, presented the plea of the party’s chief whip, Sunil Prabhu, asking for an urgent hearing today (June 29) and describing the floor test as “illegal” before the Supreme Court.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut stated that the Uddhav Thackeray group would appeal the Maharashtra Governor’s decision to have a floor test before the Supreme Court shortly after the news was made on June 20.
Raut said, “This is against the law. The Supreme Court is now hearing arguments about the disqualification of 16 MLAs. In the event that the BJP and Governor House attempt to overthrow the government, we will file a case with the Supreme Court and seek justice.”
He continued, “The Raj Bhavan has responded to the demand [by the BJP] faster than the Rafale jets [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi bought.”
