Headlines: As Rains Batter Tamil Nadu, CM Stalin requests Centre to release funds for cyclone season

Several parts of Chennai went under water on Sunday morning after the city recorded heavy overnight rains. From Saturday morning onwards, Chennai and several suburbs in Chengelpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts witnessed intermittent rains, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more rainfall over the coming days and issuing a ‘red’ category warning. Chennai has received the heaviest rainfall since the 2015 floods. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin regarding the situation in the state and assured him of the Centre’s support in rescue and relief work. While four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Madurai, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur for rescue work, State Disaster Response Force teams have been sent to Thanjavur and Cuddalore districts.
