The state government has removed K Govindraj from his position as political secretary to Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, with immediate effect. This is according to a state government notification. This comes just two days after a stampede in Bengaluru after a huge crowd gathered outside the Chinnaswamy stadium. The state governmant and RCB had organized a parade to celebrate the franchise RCB’s first-time win in the IPL this year.
The official statement read, “The appointment of K Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Accordingly, K Govindaraj is hereby relieved from the post of Political Secretary to the Chief Minister with immediate effect.”
The stampede caused 11 deaths and injured over 60 people, the parade being on June 4. They have not given any official reason for removing Govindraj from his position.

In the meantime, K Govindraj spoke after the government sacked him. He has spoken about claims that he had advised the CM against organising a grand victory parade. This was concerning the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team, according to reports.
“My comments were misinterpreted. I never advised the chief minister on this matter. Who am I to advise the CM?”
“I hold no brief on cricketing matters. In fact, I head the Karnataka Olympic Association. It would be inappropriate for me to make any suggestions regarding a cricket celebration,” he added as reported by TOI.
Multiple IPS Officers Suspended
Following the unfortunate incident, the Karnataka police suspended multiple IPS officers. This includes the Bengaluru city police Commissioner, B Dayananda.
Senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh took charge as the city police commissioner on Friday.

The CM Siddaramaiah defended the suspension of Dayananda and other officials. He said that Prima facie, the authorities have suspended the officials who have not acted responsibly and have not shown responsibility.
Siddaramaiah accused the BJP and the JD(S) of politicising the incident. He said this while speaking to reporters.
