As many as 117 seats are voting today in the Punjab assembly elections. The election that was supposed to take place on 14th February was postponed to 20th February due to Ravidas jayanti. The Punjab assembly election is very interesting this time around as well as very crucial. The border state is witnessing a multi-=cornernered fight probably for the first time. Traditionally, the electoral fight was limited to two main players the Congress and the shiromani akali dal.
This time the parties in the fray include Congress, AAP, SAD-BSP alliance, BJP-PLC-SAD (Sanyukt) and the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha. Among the prominent faces contesting in Punjab are CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial face Bhagwant Mann, former CMs Amarinder Singh and Parkash Singh Badal, and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
While the fate of political parties are being sealed in the EVM box today and the results will come out on March 10th, questions are now being raised over possible fixing.
According to a report of Dainik Bhaskar, Dera Sachha Sauda, one of the powerful group founded by Ram Rahim has allegedly issued instruction to dera followers to vote in favour of BJP. Ram Rahim was released from the Haryana jail on February 7 on 21 day furlough. The dera sachha sauda has 40 Lakh followers and directly impact 70 assembly constituency in the Malwa region, which is said to be the key to the CM seat in Punjab.
So, is the dera fixing Punjab elections and what does it mean for political parties in the fray, Arti Ghargi discusses in this video today.
