“The Modi govt is often accused of crony capitalism and selling off India’s national assets to a few select industrialists. The Congress has in the past attacked the Modi government’s policies calling it a policy of Hum Do, Humare Do. Back when Ripun Bora was in Congress, he even had slammed the Modi ovt saying that they didn’t create a single PSU during their rule but privatized 23 of them.
Air India’s sale to the Tatas was the biggest privatization bid that happened at the beginning of this year. Now, the Modi govt is in process to sell its stake in another govt owned air carrier service. The Modi govt on Friday approved the sale of Pawan Hans Ltd along with management control to Star9 Mobility Pvt Ltd. It is a 51:49 joint-venture between the government and state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp Ltd. Pawan Hans currently operates 42 helicopters. The Govt is selling the company to Star 9 mobility for Rs 211.14 crore. However, Congress has alleged that the govt is selling Pawan Hans to a company which was formed just 6 months ago and has no prior experience in operating Helicopter carrier company. They also called the sale of Pawan Hans a blunder.
