“Its almost end of 2021, but the Covid-19 pandemic is far from Over. the new variant of Covid-19 known as Omicron is the latest addition to the worries of the Indian administration after the havoc wrecked by Delta variant. Today, the Health Ministry said India has reported 358 cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant across 17 states and UTs in India. However, 114 people have recovered after being treatment. The active Omicron caseload in the country is now 244.
The majority of Omicron cases in India have been reported from Maharashtra (88), Delhi (67), Telangana (38), Tamil Nadu (34), Karnataka (31), Gujarat (30), Kerala (27), Rajasthan (22).
But the worrisome part is how fast the Omicron cases are increasing. India’s Omicron caseload crossed 100 exactly one week ago. On Tuesday the caseload crossed 200. and 122 new Omicron Covid cases over the previous 24 hours – meaning India’s Omicron caseload jumped by a third in one day.
Another fact about the omicron spread is that 91 per cent of all Omicron patients in India were fully vaccinated. that they had rteceived mandatory 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. This has led to demands of a booster shot. However, the govt is yet to deliberate on that aspect.
Meanwhile, the local administrations in different parts of the country have begun ramping up restrictions in light of festivities like Christmas and New Years’ Eve. Night Curfews and certain restrictions on assembly and movement are back in several states.
