Pahalgam Attack Shocks Everyone As Eyewitnesses Testify

Eyewitnesses who were at the scene of the attack give a first-hand glimpse into the tragic incident

The recent terror attack in Pahalgam has shocked India and the world after innocent civilians, mainly travellers were attacked. The attack left about 26 dead and many others were injured. This left many of the family members grief-stricken and in trauma.

The horrible bloodbath targeted sightseers in a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam. This place is in the mountainous Anantnag district and turns out to be the worst attack in the region in years.

One of the victims was a Nepali national. There was another civilian of โ€œIndian origin who works in the Middle East,โ€ V K Birdi, inspector general of police in Kashmir, told CNN.

It was said by him that the attack took place in a part of the Baisaran Valley. This area is only accessible by foot or horseback. The assault was unfolded in a meadow, with mountainous ridges nearby, that stretched several miles without any car roads, it was added by him.

Survivors spoke of the horror as the attack eventualised and a bloody scene brought about by the gunmen.

One eyewitness said that the gunmen opened fire from a close range at the tourists.

โ€œMy husband was shot in the head while seven others were also injured in the attack,โ€ one woman survivor said, as reported by PTI.

Another survivor, Asavari Jagdale told PTI that gunmen entered the tent where her family was hiding. The family hailing from Indiaโ€™s western Pune city was accused by the attackers of supporting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And then Jagdaleโ€™s male relatives, including her father, were shot, she then said.

Local resident Abdul Waheed said that he started getting people on his pony, so that he could take them to the hospitals or clinics nearby. He also brought other people with their ponies in his Local Pony Association to help save the civilians. But, for those who were badly injured, they used makeshift cots to take them down the valley.

โ€œI saw people crying, screaming, just lying in the aftermath of the attack. There were children, women, men, everyone,โ€ he said. โ€œIt was a massive trauma. I did not sleep all night.โ€
