UK Media Watchdog Fines Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV For “Hate Speech”, Is India Watching?

In May 2020, UK’s Communication Regulator which sort of works as a media watchdog fined Islamic Preacher Zakir Naik’s Peace TV. The fine was for broadcasting “hate speech” and “highly offensive” content in the country. Office of communication also referred to as OfCom fined licence holders of Peace TV Urdu 200,000 pounds and Peace TV 100,000 pounds for breaking its broadcasting rules.

The Same regulator, has now fined an Indian “news channel” Republic TV for 20,000 Euros for similar offence. For Hate Speech and Offecinve and Derogatory remarks. It speaks volume about the condition of media in our country when an Indian mainstream news channel that claims to be no.1 in Both Hindi and English language category, is kept in same rank as Zakir Naik’s peace TV by regulator of other country. If this is what our No. 1 mainstream news channel is, we can all guage what the number 2’s and Number 3’s must be doing.

Well, but what triggered the action taken by UK Media regulator against Republic TV? And How did the channel respond, let’s talk about that.
