Vaccines Concentrated In UrbanArea, RuralIndia Awaits Share In 1.20 Cr Doses Bought By Pvt Hospitals

According to a report published in the Indian Express, in the first month of the liberalized vaccine drive, Vaccine inequity has emerged as one of the highlight points. The report says that just 9 big corporate hospitals have cornered 50% of the vaccine stocks purchased by the Pvt hospitals in May. What is more alarming is that these corporate hospitals mostly operate only in Big metro cities. In May, the private hospitals across the country procured a total of 1.20 Crore vaccine doses, of these, the nine corporate hospital groups cumulatively bought 60.57 lakh doses. The remaining 50% was purchased by 300 other private hospitals many of whom operate in urban areas and very few have a presence beyond tier 2 cities.
