The point to note is that Turkey hardly has a fried in the world today. The country has been let down by its current President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by implementing unconventional economic policies. Turkey depends heavily on Russian oil which supplements almost 35% of the country’s energy needs. Despite this, Turkey has taken a stand against the Russians in the Ukraine-Russia war.
In this episode, I cover the history of Russia and Turkey’s relationship zeroing down to the events of the last month. Since Turkey declared that ‘Russia is at War’, it has invoked the Montreux Convention regarding the transit of naval vehicles through the Turkish Straits.
This ban on the movement of naval vessels has increased the Problems for Putin. Russia is already facing the bite of the west sponsored sanctions.
