Mumbai Police moves court seeking non-bailable warrant against Param Bir Singh

Mumbai : Mumbai Police is moving to court seeking that a non-bailable warrant should be issued against Param Bir Singh in connection with an extortion case. The court will hear the application on October 29.

The crime branch is probing the extortion allegations on him.

On October 9, the Mumbai Police issued a summons for Param Bir Singh to appear before the police in the case. The police even went to his Malabar Hill house but could not find him there.

The fresh notice was filed after reports suggested that Param Bir Singh, who is now facing at least five criminal cases in the state, has fled the country.

The case against Param Bir Singh was registered at Goregaon police station on the complaint of builder-cum-hotelier Bimal Agrawal. Agarwal had alleged that Param Bir Singh extorted Rs 9 lakh from him for not conducting a raid on two bars and restaurants, which he ran in partnership, and also forced him to buy two smartphones worth around Rs 2.92 lakh for them. The complaint alleged that the incident occurred between January 2020 and March 2021.

Besides Param Bir Singh, dismissed police officer Sachin Waze, Sumit Singh alias Chintu, Alpesh Patel, Vinay Singh alias Babloo and gangster Chhota Shakeel’s henchman Riyaz Bhati are named as accused in the FIR.

Param Bir Singh later accused then state home minister Anil Deshmukh of asking Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore from hotels and bars in Mumbai every month, a charge which Deshmukh denied.
